Megu Elizabeth Kolanko, daughter of Robert and Sono Kolanko of Weirton, is the Weirton Elks Lodge 1801 "Teenager of the Month" for February.
Kolanko is a senior at Weirton Madonna High School, has a grade point average of 3.8 and a score of 23 on her ACT college entrance exam.
Her honors and awards include: Four-year letterman in varsity soccer and track, 2008 Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership Award as seminar ambassador, a graduate of Youth Leadership Wheeling, and one of 200 teens nationwide to participate in the Music Ministry Alive program.
Kolanko is vice-president of the Ski Club, secretary of Future Medical Careers Club and served two years with Pro-Life and Interact Clubs and Mat Maids.
She volunteers with Lend-A-Hand for Appalachia, Vacation Bible School, Force Soccer Camp and multiple Elks events. She sang the "Star Spangled Banner" at all football and basketball games, and is a referee for the Northern Panhandle Youth Soccer Association.
Her interests are singing, listening to music, reading, participating in sports and spending time with family and friends.
Kolanko plans to major in Secondary Education at West Virginia University.
